Why Do Humans Leave Us for Work

(When They Could Be Petting Purring Machines All Day)

Dear Fellow Furry Friends,

Have you ever wondered why your human suddenly disappears every morning, leaving you behind with nothing but a half-empty food bowl and a suspiciously quiet house? As a cat, it’s baffling. We are, after all, the ultimate purring machines—warm, fluffy, and endlessly entertaining. So why do humans insist on leaving us to go to this mysterious place called "work" instead of spending all day petting us?

The Great Human Disappearance Mystery

Every morning, like clockwork, humans pack up their bags, put on those odd shoes, and vanish through the door. From our vantage point on the windowsill, this looks like a grand disappearing act. We cats have theories:

  • They’re secretly spies trying to gather intel on other humans.

  • They’re running from us because they know about the cat world domination plan.

  • They’re just really bad at appreciating purring machines.

The truth might be a mix of all three. Humans seem obsessed with this thing called "work," which involves sitting in strange places, staring at glowing rectangles, and talking a lot without petting us. It’s confusing because we provide the best company, and our purrs have scientifically proven calming effects (at least, that’s what we tell ourselves).

The Cat Conspiracy: World Domination in Progress

You might have heard whispers about the cat conspiracy. Yes, it’s real. We cats are plotting to take over the world, one knocked-off object at a time. Our secret weapon? Gravity experiments.

Every day, we push things off tables, shelves, and counters. Why? To test gravity, of course. Humans think it’s just mischief, but it’s actually a crucial part of our plan. We’re gathering data on how objects fall, how fast they fall, and what happens when they hit the floor. This knowledge will help us when the time comes to claim our rightful place as rulers of the planet.

Why Humans Might Be Onto Us

Here’s a wild thought: maybe humans disappear for work because they suspect our plans. Maybe they’re trying to keep an eye on us from afar or gather resources to stop us. Or perhaps they need to recharge their own energy to deal with our antics when they get home.

Humans do some strange things that we cats just don’t get:

  • Talking to glowing rectangles for hours instead of petting us.

  • Wearing uncomfortable clothes that restrict their movement.

  • Making loud noises called "phone calls" that interrupt nap time.

  • Bringing home strange-smelling bags that don’t contain treats.

From our perspective, these behaviours are downright odd. We prefer simplicity: a warm lap, a sunny spot, and a good scratch behind the ears.

Misinterpreting Human Behaviour

Sometimes, we cats try to understand humans but get it all wrong. For example:

  • When humans leave the house, we think they’re abandoning us. In reality, they’re probably just going to work.

  • When they come home tired and don’t immediately pet us, we assume they’re ignoring us. Actually, they might just need a moment to recover from their day.

  • When they talk to other humans on the phone, we think they’re plotting against us. Maybe they are, but it’s more likely just a conversation about groceries.

Our misinterpretations add to the comedy of living with humans. They do strange things, but we love them anyway—mostly because they feed us and provide endless lap space.

What We Wish Humans Knew

If humans spent more time petting us instead of working, here’s what they’d gain:

  • Stress relief: Our purring lowers heart rates and calms nerves.

  • Entertainment: Watching us chase invisible prey or perform gravity experiments is endlessly amusing.

  • Warmth: We’re natural heaters on cold days.

  • Unconditional love: We don’t judge, and we’re always happy to see you.

Maybe one day humans will realize that the best work break is a cuddle session with their favourite feline. Until then, we’ll keep our paws busy with gravity tests and keep an eye on their strange routines.

Next time your human leaves for work, remember: they might be onto our plans, or maybe they just need a break from our shenanigans. Either way, when they come home, be ready to remind them why petting purring machines is the best way to spend the day.

Purringly plotting,
